양평의 평수가 큰 아파트에서 생활해왔던 젊은 부부는 아이를 위해 서울로 거주지를 옮기면서 작은 골목에 접해 있는 20여 평의 대지를 구입하였다. 앞 도로의 폭이 좁아 대지의 일부를 도로로 내어주고 남은 대지의 크기는 16평 남짓. 통행이 잦은 6m 도로에서도 건물이 보이고 지하와 1층은 임대를 위한 근린생활시설이므로 외부에서의 건물의 인상이 중요하기도 하여 반대로 골목에서 먼 쪽으로 입구를 두고 가까운 쪽은 건물의 첫인상을 만들 수 있도록 계획하였다.
Young husband and wife, who used to live in large apartment in Yangpyeoung, moved in to Seoul for their child and purchased about 20py-sized lot adjacent to the narrow street. The leftover site area was about 50m², after giving away some portion of the lot to the road. Impression of the building was critical since the basement and first floor are used as commercial space. The entrance was planned in the rear side and the façade facing the alley was designed to give a good first impression.
지하와 1층에는 근린생활시설이, 2층부터 다락까지는 세 식구가 사는 단독주택이 함께 구성되었다. 1층 도로와 접한 외부 공간을 매개로 지하와 1층, 2층을 연결해주고 도로에서는 프라이버시를 위해 측면에 입구를 계획하였다.
The building consists of commercial facilities in basement and first floor, and housing of three family members from second floor to attic. Open space in first floor facing the road connects first and second floor, and the entrance from the road is located on the side for privacy.
1층 외부공간을 거쳐 2층 현관으로 올라가는 외부 계단은 골목 쪽을 바라볼 수 있게 크게 열려 있다. 이는 다시 골목과의 관계를 상기시켜주고 이곳을 통해 시선, 바람, 빛의 변화를 경험하게 된다. 2층에 다다르면 주택의 현관 도어를 만난다. 무게감이 느껴지는 두터운 현관 도어의 가죽 손잡이를 열고 들어가면 남측에 큰 창을 통해 들어오는 외부 풍경과 빛으로 공간의 크기가 극대화된다. 3층으로 올라가는 내부 계단은 이 건물에서 가장 공간적으로 좁고 높은 공간의 형태를 띠고 있다. 주택 내부 공간의 다양함은 내부를 더욱 풍성하게 만들어주고 각 공간마다의 성격을 강화해준다. 3층의 구성은 침실과 딸 방, 그리고 화장실로 구성되어 있다. 딸 방의 도어는 1.5m 폭의 슬라이딩 도어이다. 외부 창과 연결된 복도가 좁아 평소에는 딸 방 도어를 열어 하나의 공간으로 사용할 수 있도록 벽 같은 도어를 만들어 계획하였다. 딸이 독립한 후 복도와 방을 하나로 확장하여 서재로 사용할 수 있도록 하였다.
Exterior stairs starting from outdoor space on first floor to entrance on second floor is wide open toward the street. The stair re-connects the relationship with the street and one can experience a change in view, wind, and light. When you reach the second floor, you come across main door of the house. As soon as you pass through the heavy door with crafted leather handle, the scale of the space is maximized due to the outdoor scenery and sunlight coming through large window on the south. Staircase to third floor is the most narrow and highest space in the building. Diversity of the spatial scale enrich the interior space and strengthen the characteristic of each space. Third floor is composed of bedroom, daughter’s room, and bathroom. The door of daughter’s room is 1.5m wide sliding door. Since the corridor connected to the external window is narrow, wall-like door was designed to use it as a single space when opened. Also when the daughter leaves home in the future, the hallway and room can be expanded into one space.
협소주택은 면적이 적다는 특징이 있어 이름이 붙었지만, 이곳은 주택이다. 삶에 대한 방식은 공간과 크기에 많은 영향을 미칠 수밖에 없다. 삶을 변화시키고 그것을 함께 만들어 나가는 것이 협소주택의 첫 출발이듯이 주택에 대한 방향과 그곳에서 생활할 사람에 대한 농밀한 고민이 필요하다.
Even though the phrase ‘small-house’ is named after the size, after all this is a home for family. Lifestyles inevitably influence space and scale. Since changing and redefining life is the first starting point of building a small house, setting clear direction and dense deliberation towards the resident are needed.
