자연과 도시의 경계 - 영장산 자락의 자연과 계획도시 분당의 경계에 위치한 이곳 대지는 남쪽으로 원경의 숲을 바라보며 북쪽으로 얕은 산의 끝자락과 닿아 있다. 대지 앞쪽에 접해 있는 낮은 대지에는 인공적 자연인 골프연습장이 자리 잡고 있으며, 뒷산에는 변함없이 푸르고 울창한 전나무 숲이 대지를 감싼다. 10여 년 전 산 끝자락이었던 이곳은 작은 마을로 계획되었고 도로의 마지막에 위치한다.
Boundary between the nature and city - The site is located at the boundary between nature of Mountain Yeongjang and the newly developed City of Bundang, looking the distant view of forest to the south and touching the edge of foothills to the north. The lower ground adjacent to the front (south) edge of the site is a golf course. The mountain in the back (north) embraces the site as the background with an everlasting green fir tree forest. The area once the foot of a mountain about ten year ago is now developed as a small village and the site is on one of its cul-de-sac.
8개의 정원과 8개의 내부 공간 - 대지 주변에 위치한 자연 경관들은 보는 거리에 따라 먼 곳은 조망할 수 있고 가까이서는 느낄 수 있는 조건을 가지고 있다. 건물 내 배치된 공간들은 다양한 자연과 만날 수 있는 정원과 접해 있다. 각 정원은 내부 공간과의 관계에서 다양한 성격을 표현하는 기능을 하며 각각의 외부 정원은 건물의 최대 면적 기준에 자연스럽게 부합한다.
Eight Gardens and Eight Internal Spaces - The natural scenery around the site provides the layers of view and sense of nature depends on the distance. Many rooms in the house have their own garden which brings the nature into the room and creates various characteristics of them.
가족의 소통과 기능의 위계 - 4인 가족을 위해 주 출입구가 있는 지하에 내부 지향적인 중정을 배치하고 이곳으로 가족들을 모이게 함으로써 가족 간의 화목을 도모한다. 긴 시간 동안 햇볕이 들어오는 중정은 내부와 외부의 경계를 지우며 공간을 확장한다. 각층으로 올라가면서 외부 공간은 외부 지향적 공간으로 바뀌고 내부는 반대로 내밀한 사적인 공간으로 배치된다.
Family Communication and Funtional Order - The center courtyard located on the ground lever same as the main entrance for four family members promotes family gathering. It also allows sunlight to flood into the rooms through the extra-long-sliding patio door and expands interior and exterior spaces to each other. But as the floor level goes up exterior spaces become more outward while interior spaces turn into more intimate and private.
빛, 양감 그리고 비례 - 건축은 자연을 배경으로 빛의 미묘한 반응을 받아들이는 재료와 형태로 대응한다. 빛은 색을 변화시키는 힘을 가지고 있으며 작은 각으로 이루어진 형태는 계절과 시간의 변화를 느끼게 해주어 감정을 풍요롭게 만든다. 모듈이 없는 외부 마감은 더욱 밀도 있는 양감을 표현하고, 이것은 절제된 추상적인 재료와 형태로 자연 속에 녹아 있다. 그리고 각 형태는 형태들끼리 질서를 지닌 채 자리를 잡고 있다.
Light, Sense of Volume and Proportion - Architecture responds to the delicate change of light with form and material. Light has the power to change color of the architectureeven with subtle angle and it presents change of time and season. The building envelope without a construction joint expresses a denser sense of volume. The house blends into the nature with minimal types of material and simple form. And each form is orderly positioned in the whole.
